I love looking at blogs and YouTube videos of others’ capsule wardrobes for inspiration. Something I’ve noticed is that they are often presented as isolated entities (or, ya know, capsules). For me, what this lacks is an explanation of how to transition your wardrobe from one season to the next. Do you swap it all out in one day? Or gradually change over, pulling pieces out as you need them? How early in the coming season do you transition?
In today’s post, I aim to explain my process for how and when I transition from one capsule wardrobe to the next.
I find that it’s easiest for me to pull the next season’s clothes out of storage as the weather first starts to change, but keep the prior season’s clothes in my closet until the weather fully shifts.
For example, I brought a lot of my fall pieces out of storage in mid-September. That way I had good options on the scattered cold days. However, I kept my summer pieces in my closet until now (mid-October), when the weather has solidly shifted to chilly autumnal amazingness. Then, I go in all at once and take out any pieces that I deem too summery and put them in my out of season storage (AKA under-bed bins).
In the video below, I went through my summer and fall clothes and talked you through deciding which pieces to pull out/what won’t be in my fall capsule. I hope you find it helpful!
