It’s crazy how quickly the months go by! It’s time, once again, for me to share a closet clean-out with you.
I’ve noticed that in the past 6 months or so, my mindset has shifted from decluttering mode to minimalism maintenance mode. As I talked about in my post that brought back #MinimalismMonday, I feel like I’ve reached a comfortable, minimal balance with my things and home. I no longer need to keep a constant eye out for extra items. I can relax into my peaceful surroundings and start focusing on all the things that I wanted to find more time for when I first started downsizing.
However, because I’m still relatively new at this, and definitely not perfect, I still have things to get rid of here and there. Recently I realized that I was being a far less critical shopper in thrift stores than in standard stores or online. I was focusing on the fact that secondhand items are far less expensive, and are a more responsible purchase, so the potential downside seemed smaller and I was letting myself buy items more impulsively.
A lot of the items in today’s clean-out were thrifted. Some recently, some not. For the older pieces, in many cases they were no longer serving me or I invested in a replacement that functions better. But the newer pieces show me that I still have work to do and lessons to learn on the road toward minimal living, so that is going to be a focus of mine moving forwards: be as critical when thrift shopping as in any other shop.
